“Then all the men of his town must stone him to death. In this way, you will purge this evil from among you, and all Israel will hear about it and be afraid.”—Deuteronomy 21:21 (NLT)
Oh my, oh my. There is so much in today’s reading. I chuckled a little when I came across this verse—especially because I’m currently praying (a lot) about parenting, discipline, and how the Lord wants me to handle correction in my home.
Let me start by saying good news: None of my children are drunkards or gluttons, so—phew!—no stoning necessary. (What a relief)
This command seems extreme, especially for a recovering codependent. It is definitely a serious reminder of how contagious sin can be, like any disease, it has to be pulled out by the roots before it spreads.

Im certainly recognizing sometimes the hardest thing is the most loving thing. Saying no, setting boundaries, enforcing consequences—it’s not easy, especially as a single parent. I can say it's exactly what God does for us! His love isn’t just soft and gentle; it’s also firm and protective. He disciplines because He loves us. He wants His best for us.
Im not sure if Im the only parent wrestling in the world of parenting today, but Lord, I beg you, help me find that balance. Help me stand firm in love. And please remind me that even when I have to hold a hard line, no actual stones are required.
