“But Noah found favor with the Lord.” Genesis 6:8 NLT
I love the mercy that Noah was shown because of his relationship with the Lord. I pray that as we continue to dive into the Word each and every day, growing our relationship with Him and
intimacy with Him, the fruit we produce will be favorable to the Lord. Because we just read Revelation, I can't help but feel thankful for God's mercy and love, knowing the end times are coming makes Noah's story even more meaningful.
I want to share a bit about how I started this daily habit of reading one chapter of the Bible a day. It was nearly 8 years ago, this fall, that I admitted to 2 close friends I had never read the Bible
from cover to cover. I was walking through a tough season and all I knew was I felt drawn to the Word. The idea of reading the Bible was so intimidating. I was sure my friends would laugh or be in shock when they heard the truth. I was surprised to hear them admit they hadn't either. None of us had much experience reading the Word for ourselves without hearing its interpretation through a sermon, podcast, or Bible study. We made the decision to begin reading the Word together daily. We weren't so much in a hurry to read it in a year, but daily. At the time I simply wanted to find more meaning out of life. It wasn't long before that goal grew to a desire to hear from the Lord, learn more about Him, and learn more about ourselves too.
I quickly realized I wasn't reading the Word as much as the Word was reading me. It was as if the Bible was speaking to my daily circumstances. It was comforting me, informing me, and there was some conviction in there too. I have grown so much in such a short time. I can't imagine not reading the Word daily. Now I find other spiritual disciplines have just become natural habits; a by-product of being in the Word and wanting to be closer to Jesus. I recognize the Spirit's voice more too. It's as if the more I read the Bible, the more I want to read it. I hope to find favor with the Lord as Noah did. I also want to help many others know Him more. (Join us in reading the Word daily)
If I can help others get into the discipline of being in the Word, I know they too will be on fire for the Lord too. Discipline sounds unsexy but in all reality, this is a daily behavior that not only gives our lives more meaning, but it grows our relationship with the Lord too. It's something we GET TO DO versus feel we have to do.
