Joshua 5:9 (CSB): “The Lord then said to Joshua, ‘Today I have rolled away the disgrace of Egypt from you.’ Therefore, that place is still called Gilgal today.”

As I read this verse on today, Good Friday, the phrase "rolled away" jumped out at me. The Israelites were stepping into the Promised Land, and the Lord declares: “I have rolled away the disgrace of Egypt from you.”

  • Their shame.

  • Their bondage.

  • Their wilderness.

Okay so I have to admit this wasn't my first AHA after reading today's chapter. Fortunately I joined our Friday Bible Study and wrestled over the readings from this last week with other women reading the same chapters. One of the other gals pointed out this "rolled" away and it made so

much sense with all the parallels Im seeing from these last several chapters to what Jesus did on the cross in comparison to them leaving Egypt.

He did it. It is finished.

This moment at Gilgal reminded me of the empty tomb, where a stone was also rolled away. These moments mark freedom from captivity—first from Egypt, today from sin and death itself. Im just so blown away how much the Promised Land becomes a symbol of the life we now have access to under the New Covenant. And just like the Israelites, we didn’t earn it—God did it.

The more I reflect, the more I realize: I don’t fully grasp the depth of this promise. But I’m starting to understand more than ever.

This Easter, I feel more raw and more exposed—in the best way. My heart is open wide. I feel exposed, but not in fear... in longing. A deep desire for greater intimacy with Jesus. I don’t want to rush past this moment. I want to stay right here, in awe and gratitude.

I am walking into the promise.
