NUMBERS 3: The Lord's Provision is Immeasurably More

Today, something pretty special happened as I read this passage. It was as if, as I was reading, the Lord highlighted to me that the Levites were given to Aaron symbolically in place of the sons he lost. It was like a whisper from the Lord: "Look around, Kami. Where you feel you have lost something or someone, I will provide." Now, don’t misunderstand me—I’m not saying the Lord gave Aaron a replacement for his sons. That isn’t possible, as any parent would agree. But what I sensed was the Lord caring for the void, filling the space where loss had left a deep ache.

“And you shall give the Levites to Aaron and his sons; they are given entirely to him from among the children of Israel.” – Numbers 3:9 (NKJV)

I had to go back and read this verse multiple times, in different translations. Nowhere does it explicitly say the Levites were given as replacement sons, but that’s how my heart read it. It felt like a gift from the Holy Spirit—reminding me that anything I’ve felt I had a right to, or that was wrongfully taken from me, the Lord will restore. It may not look like it did before or how I imagined, but it will be a blessing beyond expectation. It was as if God was saying, "Open your eyes to where I have provided for you where you have felt lack."

This past weekend at the foster/adoptive pareting conference, FILLED gathering, by Foster The Family, I realized I had spent so much time mourning over who didn’t support my decision to foster and adopt. And yet, all weekend, the Lord kept showing me the people He had placed around me—the ones who stood in the gap, encouraged me, and reminded me that I was never alone.

That’s exactly what I sensed about Aaron. He lost his sons, but he had a huge calling on his life, and the Lord provided for him in a way beyond what he could have asked for.

I love that today we see the Lord providing for him immeasurably more than he could have expected. And I believe He does the same for us.
