“This is the service of the families of the sons of Gershon in the tabernacle of meeting. And their duties shall be under the authority of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest.”
Numbers 4:28 NKJV
One thing became very clear as I read chapter 4—the weight of the Calling to serve, “The Call,” carries so much responsibility. As I read through the various requirements for all the different family groups, I couldn’t help but think of the verse from Matthew: "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few."
There were so many barriers to overcome just to be in the presence of the Lord, and of course, that required the hands of many. But now that we have Jesus, all of that is completely done away with. And because of the Holy Spirit, the work of harvesting and serving the Lord extends beyond any particular group of people. The work Jesus did on the cross didn’t just bring us closer to God—it removed every single rule about who could serve Him.
The Call is still just as important, but the barriers to doing the work have been removed. Whew. That thought gives me chills. How many of us, myself included, have felt like we had to be in full-

time ministry to truly do ministry or answer the call? But the truth is, that’s just not the case.
